Habitat for Humanity brings interfaith organizations together to build and dedicate new home

Canton, Ohio, October 19, 2018 – Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio will celebrate the completion of its 2018 Interfaith Build during a special home dedication ceremony on November 10 at 2pm. The ceremony will take place at the newly constructed house at 3125 Cliftmont Ave NE, Canton, the future home of Jillian Dodd. Four faith organizations joined together to sponsor and build the home: Islamic Society of Northeast Ohio, Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Temple Israel of Canton, and Trinity United Church of Christ.

During Habitat’s Interfaith Build, organizations of various faiths partnered together to build alongside Habitat homeowner Jillian Dodd as she built her family’s future home. “While Habitat is a Christian housing ministry, we work with people of all faiths and no faith. This project is a beautiful example of what can be accomplished when we come together in unity,” said Beth Lechner, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. “Habitat is all about bringing people together to build homes and hope, and our Interfaith Partners are showing us very tangibly that building on faith and love can change everything.”

Through her partnership with Habitat, Jillian has invested hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” by building her home and the homes of others while completing courses in financial literacy, home maintenance, and personal development. Because of her partnership with Habitat, and the support of each Interfaith Build organization, Jillian will be able to purchase this home with an affordable 0% interest mortgage.

Rabbi Jon Adland of Temple Israel believes that working together on Habitat’s Interfaith Build has wide-reaching positive effects, not only for Jillian’s family, but also for the world. “Helping families own their own home is just one small step at a time. ‘Tikkun Olam’ means repairing the world—Temple Israel’s social justice mission is to help repair the world where it may be broken or need support. Working with Habitat is a part of that mission.”

During Habitat’s November 10 home dedication, Jillian will receive the keys to her Habitat home and will present her first 0% interest mortgage payment.
